Let’s start at the very beginning … This is the line that would start the first musical in M.E.S.S. history. To start at the very beginning, to do everything thouroughly and to make each and every show cutting edge – this is the motto every participant of the project shares and tries to pass on.

M.E.S.S. (Mr. English Stage Stars) is the only theatre studio in Moscow that stages and performs professional musicals in English. As a genre, musicals require a great deal of organisation and cooperation – precisely what M.E.S.S. has and develops continuously. Thus, the controvesial name of M.E.S.S. means only a passion for constant search and creative experiments, which the company demonstates both at teaching and performing. This becomes possible because MESS is a project that integrates 3 different parts: the theatre, the studio and the club.

M.E.S.S. is first and foremost a musical theatre that unites both professional actors and amateurs in attempt to deliver what is best on Broadway and in West End to the Moscow stage. In April 2005 M.E.S.S. presented their first show ‘Broadway Babies: a musical revue’, that combined hillarious sketches with tap-dance sequences and famous songs by the most renowned composers of the musical theatre. The show was very well accepted by the audience of more than 1500 spectators and its success led to the general reorganisation and expansion of the theatre. The company now has a unique opportunity to perform regularly at the best venues of the Russian capital and to take part in Russian and international theatre festivals.

«M.E.S.S.» MEANS STUDIO
As amateurs make the biggest part of the company, we pay a lot of attention to teaching Drama and other theatre subjects to children and adults who wish to join the project. Every year auditions take place and the best applicants are invited to join our 4-year course (with first year as Preparotory Course, intended mainly for non-native speakers). Our unique programme enables either native or non-native speakers to master the basics of actor’s profession in a relatively short period of time and also to develop their singing, dancing and even public speaking skills. The final stage of studying includes working on an actual performance (normally a musical), which is to be performed on the professional theatre stage in one of Moscow repertoire theatres.

«M.E.S.S.» MEANS CLUB
Last but not least, M.E.S.S. is also an English-speaking club where all the participants of the project get a chance to meet and communicate in English. We have teachers, students, and actors of various ages (from 12 to 25 y.o.) and cultural backgrounds. Monthly rehearsals as well as regular performances and celebrations give everyone an extra opportunity to get to know each other better, to improve their communicative skills and simply to have fun. And it is beneficial for everyone: while Russian students are brushing up their English, native speakers may find it very useful to learn more about Russia, its diverse culture and traditions.
